Is listening to and following a recitation of the Qur’an from a recording, or just listening to it from a recording or computer while viewing the text, counted as a full reading (khatmah) similar to reading directly from the Mushaf?

The answer

Listening and reading simultaneously contradicts proper reflection on the Qur'an and violates Allah's command to listen attentively and be silent during recitation, as stated in His Almighty قول: (And when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy). As for merely listening from another person, it is commendable, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, listened to recitation from others. However, listening to the Qur'an from a recording device does not suffice for its recitation, which the Lawgiver encouraged and desired.
