Is it permissible to keep a dog at home, adopting the view of Imam Malik, who holds that all animals are equal?

Malik's madhhab regarding the purity of the dog does not, in any way, indicate the permissibility of keeping it. The prohibition against keeping dogs has been reported, except for the purpose of hunting, guarding livestock, or crops. Furthermore, the reward of one who keeps a dog for purposes other than these is diminished. Therefore, it is not permissible to sell a dog whose keeping is prohibited, even if it is pure and beneficial.
