What is the ruling on the discharge (secretions) that women experience? Is it obligatory for her to change her underwear, perform ghusl, and renew her ablution for every prayer because of it? What is the ruling on the discharge that occurs during imagination of marital life? What is your advice to those who suffer from obsessive thoughts related to ablution, or doubt the number of rak’ahs in prayer, or forget to wash a limb during ablution, or doubt the emission of a discharge? Is she obligated to constantly check?

Natural discharges invalidate ablution according to the majority of scholars. They are pure (tahira) and do not necessitate ghusl (ritual bath) or changing clothes. However, it is preferable to guard against them. As for madhy (pre-seminal fluid, which is discharged during foreplay), it is impure (najis) and invalidates ablution. Whatever part of the body it touches must be washed, and clothes should be sprinkled with water. To treat waswasa (obsessive whispering/doubts), it is recommended to remember Allah frequently and completely turn away from these doubts, not paying attention to uncertainties regarding purity or prayer. Indeed, one afflicted with waswasa should not perform the prostration of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw) and should not heed doubts after completing an act of worship.
