What is the ruling on stomach bypass surgeries that aim to accelerate digestion and reduce weight in obese individuals?
Surgeries that necessitate anesthesia are not permissible except out of necessity, due to their effect of impairing the mind. It is advisable to consult doctors for alternative treatments, to increase voluntary fasting, adhere to a diet, and reduce food intake. Recall the : "No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach. A few bites are sufficient for the son of Adam to keep his back straight. But if it must be, then one third for his food, one third for his drink, and one third for his breath." Also, give charity to those in need, remembering the hadith: "He has not believed in me who eats his fill while his neighbor beside him is hungry, and he knows it."
