What is the preponderant meaning of the words "Tayyibat" (good things) and "Khaba'ith" (evil/bad things) mentioned in the Holy Quran concerning foods and drinks?

The preponderant view is to consider what the Arabs deemed wholesome and delightful, or what they deemed repugnant. This is the view held by Ibn Qudamah and An-Nawawi, based on the Almighty's saying: {and makes lawful for them the good things and makes unlawful for them the evil things}. What is meant by "good things" (tayyibat) are what the Arabs considered wholesome, and by "evil things" (khaba'ith) are what they considered repugnant. In this regard, the people of the Hijaz from among the inhabitants of the cities are considered, for they are the most deserving of nations for their discernment of what is wholesome and what is repugnant to be taken into account, because they were the primary addressed audience.
