What is meant by beauty in the Hadith, "Indeed, Allah is beautiful and loves beauty"? Does it include the beauty of the face, body, and hair? The phrase "Allah is beautiful and loves beauty" appeared in the context of answering the Companions' question about arrogance. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified that the intended beauty is adorning oneself in appearance with good clothes, good sandals, and similar things that are permissible by Islamic law. As for beautifying oneself with forbidden things, such as plucking eyebrows (namṣ) and hair extensions (waṣl), this is not the beauty that Allah loves; rather, it is among the things He dislikes, because it is an alteration of Allah's creation, even if people perceive it as beautiful. An exception to this is hair extensions made from material other than human hair, as some scholars have permitted it.
