What is the ruling on addressing people with titles such as "Mawlana" (our master), "Sayyidna" (our lord), "Ammana" (our uncle), "Wali Allah" (friend of God), or "Imamuna" (our leader)?

Addressing a person known for their uprightness and piety with phrases like "Ya 'Am" (O Uncle) or "Ya Mawlana" (O our Master/Patron) is permissible. The term "Mawla" is used for a supporter, a client, or a cousin (son of the paternal uncle), and "'Am" for an elder, whether from relatives or others. However, it is forbidden to use the term "Sayyid" (Master/Lord) for the wicked and hypocrites. As for the Friends of Allah (Awliya Allah), they are not definitively addressed with this term, because Allah knows best who is truly pious. A Wali (Friend of Allah) is a believing, pious person, and it is difficult to definitively assert that someone possesses this quality. The appearance of miracles is not sufficient to definitively confirm sainthood, as extraordinary phenomena can appear at the hands of both the righteous and the wicked.
