What is the ruling on the waiting period (iddah) for the wives of the victims of the Yemeni plane crash, and does their waiting period begin now or after the fate of their husbands is known?

His wife's 'iddah (waiting period) begins from the moment the accident occurs, especially if the person fell into the sea and the competent authorities declared no survivors were found after search and investigation. The jurists have stated that whoever is lost at sea during a severe storm and whose fate remains unknown is to be presumed dead. The same applies to one who went missing from Muslim ships and no news of him emerged. If the wife ascertains his death during the 'iddah, she counts what has passed and completes the remainder. If she receives the news after the 'iddah has ended, she has already exited from it.
