Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, the best of the Ummah and the most deserving to be included in the general meaning of the Quranic verses that speak of believers, the pious, and the good-doers. Several noble verses were revealed concerning him, mentioning him with titles such as:
1. The Companion: As in His, the Almighty’s, saying: ﴿إِذْ يَقُولُ لِصَاحِبِهِ لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَنَا﴾ [When he said to his companion, "Grieve not; indeed Allah is with us,"] (At-Tawbah/40). 2. The Truthful (Al-Siddiq): In His, the Almighty’s, saying: ﴿وَالَّذِي جَاءَ بِالصِّدْقِ وَصَدَّقَ بِهِ أُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُونَ﴾ [And he who brings the truth and [he who] confirms it - those are the righteous,] (Az-Zumar/33). Some exegetes held that the one who confirmed it was Abu Bakr. 3. The Righteous: In His, the Almighty’s, saying: ﴿وَصَالِحُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴾ [and the righteous of the believers,] (At-Tahrim/4). Some interpreted “the righteous of the believers” as Abu Bakr and Umar. 4. The Most Pious (Al-Atqa): In His, the Almighty’s, saying: ﴿وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْأَتْقَى (17) الَّذِي يُؤْتِي مَالَهُ يَتَزَكَّى﴾ [But the most righteous one will be removed far from it – (17) He who gives his wealth to purify himself,] (Al-Layl/17-18). All exegetes agreed that it was revealed concerning him. 5. The Possessor of Bounty (Dhu al-Fadl): In His, the Almighty’s, saying: ﴿وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُولُو الْفَضْلِ مِنْكُمْ وَالسَّعَةِ أَنْ يُؤْتُوا أُولِي الْقُرْبَى﴾ [And let not those among you who are blessed with grace and wealth swear not to give [aid] to their relatives,] (An-Nur/22). This verse was revealed in the story of Abu Bakr and Mistah. 6. A Verse of Reprimand: In His, the Almighty’s, saying: ﴿يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَرْفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَكُمْ فَوْقَ صَوْتِ النَّبِيِّ﴾ [O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet,] (Al-Hujurat/2).
