The answer

There is no objection to longing for the deceased if that longing is to meet them in Paradise. This requires righteous deeds to attain Allah's pleasure and enter Paradise with them, just as the Companions longed for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, after his death. However, if this longing causes sadness, distress, and objection to Allah's decree, then it is prohibited, because Islam seeks to enable the Muslim to live with a tranquil spirit, believing in Allah's decree.
