ما هي آيات السيف وأين توجد في القرآن الكريم؟
The "Verse of the Sword" is a term frequently found in books of Tafsir (exegesis) and Quranic sciences. It refers to Allah Almighty's saying: "So when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and lie in wait for them at every ambush. But if they repent and establish prayer and give zakah, then let them [go their] way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." (Quran 9:5). Al-Qurtubi mentioned that it abrogated every verse that enjoined turning away from the polytheists and enduring their harm. Some have added other verses to it, such as: "And fight the polytheists collectively as they fight you collectively" (Quran 9:36) and "Go forth, light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah" (Quran 9:41).
