It is permissible to greet the mother when visiting her grave by saying, "O so-and-so, daughter of so-and-so, I am your son so-and-so." The deceased recognizes those who greet them and returns the salutation. It is permissible to supplicate for the deceased at their grave while standing or sitting, but it is not permissible to sit on the grave.
