Is the hadith, "May Allah curse a woman if she raises her voice," fabricated?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no Prophetic Hadith with the wording mentioned. The authentic Hadith, however, states the Prophet (peace be upon him) disavowed the Salqa, the Haliqa, and the Shaqqa. Scholars explained the Salqa as she who raises her voice in wailing and lamenting during a calamity. Jurists have mentioned that it is not prescribed for a woman to raise her voice in the presence of non-mahram men, such as for the call to prayer (adhan), recitation (qira'ah), or talbiyah; because her voice is a source of fitnah, and a woman's voice is a greater source of fitnah than the sound of her anklets.
