Is continuing a marriage to a husband who is not religiously observant and works in a usurious bank, and who does not allow for the religious upbringing of the children, considered patience for which one is rewarded, or does it expose the wife, her faith, and her family to danger, especially since his money may be a source of livelihood for the family, and are the wife's fasting and charity accepted from this money?

1. Working in usurious banks is impermissible because it constitutes cooperation in sin and unlawful gain.

2. Abandoning prayer is a grave sin, and some scholars, including Imam Ahmad, have gone so far as to consider one who abandons it an infidel.

3. It is permissible for the wife to spend from her husband's unlawfully acquired money only for necessities (food, drink, clothing, shelter).

4. Charity from unlawful money is invalid; it must be spent with the intention of disposing of it, not with the intention of seeking reward.

5. It is advised to offer gentle counsel to the husband and invite him kindly.
