If a woman travels without a mahram, she has violated religious texts. However, some scholars have permitted her travel out of necessity, provided the route is safe, the journey is for an act of obedience, and she is accompanied by trustworthy companions. As for her stay in the country she traveled to, a mahram is not required for her residence there. Rather, it suffices that she be in a place where she feels safe, while being obligated to avoid anything that leads to fitna and to adhere to modesty, decorum, and proper conduct when going out.
