The answer

The marriage contract is not valid if the spouses are not specified therein. For example, if a man says: "I marry you to my daughter," and he has more than one daughter without specifying which one, then it is invalid, as mentioned by Ibn Qudamah.

Therefore, what transpired between the inquirer and the man is void and does not constitute a marriage. One must be cautious about joking in matters of marriage due to their sanctity. The has prohibited taking the signs of Allah in jest, as stated in His Almighty saying: "And do not take the verses of Allah in mockery" (Al-Baqarah: 231). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also forbade playing with the boundaries of Allah.

It is preferable not to marry off a daughter until she reaches puberty and her permission is obtained, as An-Nawawi mentioned concerning Ash-Shafi'i.
