What is the ruling on someone who sits on a bed that a female had directly sat on?

It was narrated that Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) used to forbid a man from sitting in a woman's place until the spot had cooled, as a preventive measure against temptation. This is considered an act of piety and caution in religious matters.
