Is repentance from taking unlawful money valid and accepted if those whose rights were violated are placated with lies for fear of scandal?
If you repent to Allah and seek absolution from those whose rights you have infringed upon, after detailing their rights to them, then there is no blame upon you. However, if you do not detail their rights to them, your conscience is not cleared except by seeking their detailed absolution or by returning their rights to them. If you are reasonably certain that your companion is truthful in seeking detailed absolution from others on their behalf, then there is no blame upon you. But if you doubt his truthfulness, you must either seek their absolution or return their rights to them. It is not necessary to inform them of the full reality of what occurred when returning the rights.
