What is the ruling on wearing an abaya that is placed over the head and characterized by wide sleeves?
The preferred lawful abaya is the head-covering abaya with wide sleeves and a narrow hand opening.
The lawful abaya is that which achieves perfect modesty and avoids fitna (temptation/strife). It has several characteristics: 1. It should be thick, not revealing what is beneath it, and not clinging to the body. 2. It should cover the entire body and be wide, not revealing its contours. 3. It should be open only from the front, and its sleeve openings should be narrow. 4. It should not have any ornamentation that attracts attention, such as drawings, decorations, or writings. 5. It should not resemble the clothing of disbelieving women or men. 6. It should be placed starting from the crown of the head.
