Is the meaning of the word "al-Dunya" (this world) "base" or "ignoble"?

"Dunya" (this world) is derived either from "danu," meaning closeness, or from "dana'ah," meaning baseness. An example of its derivation from "danu" is the Almighty's saying: (Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars) and His saying: (They take the fleeting goods of this lower life). An example of its derivation from "dana'ah" is the Almighty's saying: (He said, "Do you exchange what is lower for what is better?"). There is no doubt that this world is close and base compared to the Hereafter. This is why it was described as the "first" in His saying: (To Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]). If this world weighed with Allah even the wing of a mosquito, He would not have given a disbeliever a single drink from it.
