ما هي شهور العدة بالنسبة للمرأة؟

1 min readAlso available in العربية

A woman observes the 'iddah (waiting period) in months in two cases:

1. Upon the death of her husband, her 'iddah is four months and ten days, as Allah the Almighty says: ﴿And those of you who die and leave wives behind them, they (the wives) shall wait (as regards their marriage) for four months and ten days.﴾ (Surat Al-Baqarah, 2:234)

2. If she does not menstruate due to young or old age, her 'iddah is three months, as Allah the Almighty says: ﴿And for those of your women who have passed the age of monthly courses, for them, if you have doubts, their 'iddah (period of waiting) is three months, and for those who have not menstruated.﴾ (Surat At-Talaq, 65:4)

As for others, they observe 'iddah by giving birth if they are pregnant, as Allah the Almighty says: ﴿And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they deliver their burdens.﴾ (Surat At-Talaq, 65:4), or by the Qurū' (menstrual periods), as Allah the Almighty says: ﴿And divorced women shall wait (as regards their marriage) for three menstrual periods.﴾ (Surat Al-Baqarah, 2:228), and the Qur' (singular of Qurū') refers to menstruation.
