What is the expiation for one who swore by Almighty God not to go to a certain place, then went there?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The expiation for an oath is one of four things: feeding ten poor persons with an average meal, or clothing ten poor persons, or freeing a slave. These three are options to choose from. Whoever is unable to do any of these, then it is fasting for three days, as Allah says: (Its expiation is the feeding of ten poor persons from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or freeing a slave. But whoever finds not [the means to do so] – then a fast of three days).
