Is it permissible to perform Umrah in Shawwal, and did the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, perform Umrah in Shawwal?

It is permissible for a Muslim to perform Umrah in Shawwal or any other days of the year, and this is the view of the majority of scholars. The preponderant opinion is that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not perform Umrah in Shawwal; rather, he performed four Umrahs, all of them in Dhul-Qa'dah. As for what was narrated from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Messenger performed an Umrah in Shawwal, there is a conflicting narration from her. Some scholars reconciled between the two narrations by stating that the Umrah occurred in the last part of Shawwal and the beginning of Dhul-Qa'dah.
