The answer

The scholars reconciled the two hadiths by stating that the : "There was no prophet sent by Allah, the Exalted, to a nation before me except that he had among his nation disciples (Hawariyyun) and companions," is a general statement that is particularized, or a general statement intended to be specific. Thus, not every prophet will have followers, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A prophet will come with one or two men, and a prophet will come with no one with him." The Hawariyyun (disciples) are the devoted followers of the prophets, or their adherents.
