What is the ruling of Islamic law on depositing money in banks?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the bank is usurious, it is not permissible to deposit money in it unless there is extreme necessity and fear for the money, coupled with the absence of a safe alternative. This is because doing so constitutes cooperation in sin. However, if the bank is not usurious and does not deal with usury, there is no harm in depositing money in it.
