What is the ruling on a wife who requests khulʿ after the marriage contract (ʿaqd al-qirān) but before consummation, for unconvincing reasons, and what are the implications of this annulment regarding the mahr (dowry) and gifts?

If a wife requests khul' (divorce initiated by the wife) without a valid Shar'i reason, she is sinful, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The women who seek khul' are the hypocrites," and his saying: "Any woman who asks her husband for a divorce without any harm (afflicting her), the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her." It is permissible for the husband to refuse to grant her khul', or to grant her khul' for more than what he gave her in mahr (dowry) and gifts.
