How can one dispose of a sum of one thousand riyals obtained from a television competition via the 700 service, and is it permissible to give it away as charity?

Competitions that rely on calling specific numbers and paying a sum of money to participate are a form of gambling (qimar) and prohibited игры (maysir) under Islamic law. This is because they involve risking money between winning and losing, which is what is known as maysir.

Islamic law has, however, made an exception for competitions that aid in jihad for the sake of Allah and the propagation of Islam, such as competitions involving camels, horses, and arrows.

Anyone who has participated in such competitions must repent to Allah and dispose of the money acquired from them by spending it on charitable causes, such as giving it to the poor and needy, or spending it on public welfare.
