Is it permissible to offer expiation (kaffarah) before making up for the missed days of Ramadan, and is it permissible to give the entire amount of the expiation to a charity with the intention of feeding the poor, even if it is not during Ramadan?
If the delay in making up missed days is due to an excuse, no expiation () is required. However, if it is without an excuse, it is a grave error, and an expiation is obligatory for each day, amounting to 750 grams of the staple food of the country. This should be given to the poor and needy. It is permissible to pay its monetary value if that is more beneficial for the needy person. One's obligation is fulfilled by delegating a trustworthy charitable organization to distribute it as food to the poor.
It is recommended that the feeding coincides with the making up of the missed days, but this is not a condition. Rather, the expiation may be given at any time the responsible individual is able.
