Is it permissible or impermissible to engage in playing billiards as a profession to earn a livelihood, and to accept the financial prizes resulting therefrom?

It is permissible to professionally engage in the aforementioned game, provided that Islamic legal controls are adhered to. There is no objection to receiving payment and benefiting from prizes if they come from a source other than the competitors. Nevertheless, it is better to pursue another profession that benefits the Muslim community, as widespread benefit is superior to limited benefit. The benefit of sports is limited and often accompanied by incidental Sharia violations.
