What is the traditional wording for the morning and evening adhkar and what is the time during which they are recited?
Supplications (adhkar) are divided into two categories: absolute (mutlaqah), which is the remembrance of Allah in all states, and restricted (muqayyadah), which is limited to a specific time or place, such as morning and evening supplications.
The time for morning supplications is from after Fajr prayer until sunrise, and for evening supplications, it is from after Asr prayer until sunset.
Among the morning and evening supplications are: 1. "Subhanallahi wa bihamdihi" (Glorified is Allah and praised be He) one hundred times. 2. "Audhu bi kalimati Allahi al-tammati min sharri ma khalaq" (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created) three times. 3. "Allahumma bika asbahna wa bika amsayna wa bika nahya wa bika namutu wa ilayka an-nushur" (O Allah, by Your grace we have entered the morning, and by Your grace we have entered the evening, and by Your grace we live, and by Your grace we die, and to You is the resurrection) in the morning, and "Allahumma bika amsayna wa bika nahya wa bika namutu wa ilayka an-nushur" (O Allah, by Your grace we have entered the evening, and by Your grace we live, and by Your grace we die, and to You is the resurrection) in the evening. 4. "Allahumma Fatir as-samawati wal-ard, alim al-ghaybi wash-, rabba kulli shay'in wa malikah, ashhadu an la ilaha illa Ant, audhu bika min sharri nafsi wa sharri ash-shaytani wa shirkihi" (O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord of all things and their Sovereign, I bear witness that there is no god but You, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Satan and his polytheism). 5. "Amsayna wa amsa al-mulku lillahi wal-hamdu lillahi la ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-hamd wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir. Rabbi as'aluka khayra ma fi hadhihi al-laylah wa khayra ma badaha, wa audhu bika min sharri hadhihi al-laylah wa sharri ma badaha. Rabbi audhu bika min al-kasali wa su'i al-kibar. Rabbi audhu bika min adhabin fi an-nar wa adhabin fi al-qabr" (We have entered the evening, and the dominion belongs to Allah, and praise is to Allah. There is no god but Allah, alone without partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise, and He is over all things competent. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this night and the good of what comes after it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what comes after it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the evil of old age. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave) in the evening. The same supplication is said in the morning by replacing "amsayna" with "asbahna". 6. Reciting "Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad" ( Al-) and "Al-Muawwidhatayn" (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) three times. 7. "Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru maa ismihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwa as-Samiul-Alim" (In the Name of Allah, with Whose Name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) three times.
