Is it Islamically permissible for a man to divorce his wife due to her contracting vitiligo?
A wife should not be divorced due to vitiligo, nor does the husband have the option of annulment because of it, whether the illness existed before marriage or appeared afterwards. This is because it is not among the infectious, repellent diseases that grant the option of annulment, like leprosy or severe psoriasis (baras). Al-Mawardi said: "As for al-bahaq (vitiligo): it is a change in skin color; it does not affect the blood and disappears, and souls are not repelled by it, so there is no option [of annulment] due to it."
