Is it permissible to say that the Messenger (peace be upon him) errs?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Prophets are infallible regarding major sins and in conveying the message. Minor sins may be committed by them, but they are not upheld therein; rather, Allah alerts them to these sins, and they repent from them. They may also err in managing worldly affairs. This is the view of the majority of scholars. It is not permissible to speak about the prophets' mistakes except with knowledgeable people who are trusted not to disparage them. Anyone who insults the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, or criticizes him, or attributes any defect to him, shall be killed, as clarified by Qadi Iyad.
