Is it obligatory to reconcile with a person with whom I had previous disputes, and what is the ruling on not reconciling in light of the Prophet’s, peace and blessings be upon him, hadith?

We advise you to reconcile with your colleague, to be patient, and to return evil with good, in accordance with His, the Almighty's, saying: "Nor can goodness and evil be equal. Repel (evil) with what is better: then will he between whom and you was hatred become as it were your friend and intimate! But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except those who possess a great portion." There is no sin upon you if you are not shunning him or refusing reconciliation. Be keen on greeting him with peace at least every three days, according to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: "It is not lawful for a believer to shun a believer for more than three days. If three days pass and he meets him, he should greet him with peace." Scholars have differed on whether shunning ceases merely by greeting with peace and returning it. Some have stipulated a return to the previous state or that the other party is not harmed by the cessation of communication.
