Have I become a disrespectful lady and an unfit mother after talking to a stranger? And is what happened considered zina (adultery/fornication)? And have I become a treacherous wife? And does this necessitate seeking a divorce? And has my Hajj become void? And what is the expiation for this conversation? And is it destiny or a trial? And has the reward for patience and seeking recompense from Allah been lost?

The questioner erred and disobeyed her Lord with that forbidden relationship, which is a figurative form of zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, called it. Its expiation is sincere repentance, by abandoning the sin, regretting it, and resolving never to return to it, while maintaining discretion and not publicizing it. One cannot use divine decree as an excuse for committing sins. Sound repentance erases what came before it, and the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin. This sin does not invalidate the reward of her Hajj or any other good deeds, nor does it prevent her supplications from being answered.
