It is not permissible, according to Sharia, to rely on modern devices to verify the emptiness of the iddah-observing woman's womb, nor is it sufficient to rely on them instead of the iddah (waiting period) ordained by Allah. This applies even if the emptiness of the womb were the sole wisdom behind it, or if the spouses agreed to waive the iddah, because doing so transgresses the limits set by Allah. Furthermore, the iddah has many purposes other than the emptiness of the womb, including providing an opportunity for reconciliation and highlighting the solemnity of marriage. Therefore, relying solely on devices contradicts the texts of the Qur’an and neglects these purposes.
