What is the authenticity of the hadith that states that the two angels forget what they have recorded of sins committed by the penitent servant, and does this include major sins or only minor ones?

We have not come across any chain of transmission (isnad) for the narration about the two angels forgetting the sins of the penitent, a narration circulated in Shiite books. However, the texts of revelation have clarified that sincere repentance is beloved to Allah, and whoever Allah loves, His angels love them. Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves. A sincere penitent fears Allah, and Allah provides a way out for him from the effects of his sins. Whether the two angels remember his sins or forget them has no bearing on the servant's forgiveness, for "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out." And one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin.
