What is the ruling on cartoon animal images on children's clothes and bedsheets?

Depicting living beings (those with souls) is forbidden, and among the proofs for this is the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, the angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture." Scholars have agreed on the prohibition of pictures that cast a shadow, but they differed on those that do not. The more correct view is that if a picture conveys veneration, such as by hanging it on a wall, it is forbidden. However, if it is on something that is usually treated with disdain, such as a rug or a cushion, it is not forbidden, due to what 'Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, did when she cut up a curtain that had images on it and made two cushions out of it.
