How can the questioner know if the mufti is issuing a sound fatwa, especially if the fatwa might be influenced by state pressure? Is it permissible for a mufti to conceal knowledge or issue a fatwa that aligns with state interests under pressure? Is it better to seek out a trustworthy mufti who does not conceal knowledge?

It is not permissible for a Mufti to issue a fatwa that contravenes Islamic law, or to conceal obligatory knowledge, such as the rulings on purity and prayer when their time enters, or what is lawful and unlawful. Otherwise, he exposes himself to God's warning in His saying: "Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Scripture - those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse." And in the Hadith: "Whoever is asked about knowledge and conceals it, Allah will bridle him with a bridle of fire on the Day of Resurrection." Nor is it permissible for him to issue a fatwa contrary to what he knows, out of desire or fear, based on the Almighty's saying: "Say, 'My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah what you do not know.'" And whoever issues a fatwa contrary to Islamic law, it is not permissible to seek his fatwa or listen to his fatwas.
