What is the ruling on disposing of a large sum of money won from a lottery game ("Lootari") via computer from Australia? Is it permissible to withdraw it for private use, or to spend it on aiding needy Muslims, given that if it is not withdrawn, it will remain in the possession of the disbelievers?

The lottery game operated by some clubs via computer is a form of gambling (maisir), and it is not permissible to participate in it, based on Allah's saying: (O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone altars [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may succeed) [Quran 5:90]. The money obtained from it is illicit gain (makseb muharram) and it is not permissible to consume it. However, it should be spent for the general welfare of Muslims, such as assisting the disabled and the like. It is not permissible to take it for personal benefit.
