What is the ruling on Zakat for a date harvest, two-thirds of which were damaged by heat and lack of water, to the point that they became dry and shriveled (hashaf), suitable only as animal feed and sold for a low price, while the remaining one-third is good but does not reach the Zakat threshold on its own, knowing that the rest of the harvest does reach the Zakat threshold?

"Al-Hashaf" refers to the worst type of dates that dry before ripening and have no flesh. If dates are so poor in quality that they are unfit for human consumption, then Zakat (definition) is not obligatory on them, because they are not considered among the "wasq" (standard measure) for Zakat. However, if they are merely of poor quality but can still be used, then Zakat is obligatory on them, just as it is on good quality dates, and the Zakat should be paid from them.
