How could Allah’s Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) ask his sons not to enter through a single gate, fearing envy and the evil eye, despite his knowledge that Allah’s decree is unchangeable and irreversible?

The scholars differed regarding the reason why Jacob (peace be upon him) commanded his sons to enter through separate gates. Many of them mentioned that it was out of fear of the evil eye for them, due to their distinguished beauty and appearance. This is considered taking precautions while relying on Allah.

It was also said that he feared the king might see their number and strength and then harm them, but the first opinion is more sound.

Nevertheless, Jacob (peace be upon him) informed them that this arrangement of his would not avail them anything against Allah's decree, for "the decision is only for Allah" alone. Upon Him he relied in all their affairs, and upon Him let those who rely, rely.
