Islamic Fiqh Academies and the majority of contemporary scholars have ruled that commercial insurance, in all its types and forms, involves شرعية محاذير (Sharia prohibitions) such as gharar (excessive uncertainty), maysir (gambling), and riba (usury). Therefore, it is impermissible to work in it or deal with it. As for cooperative insurance companies established by some Islamic countries to avoid these Sharia prohibitions, there is no objection to working in them or dealing with them, after verifying their adherence to Sharia guidelines.
