What is the ruling on praying behind an Imam who is not approved of due to his divergence from the the Sunnah in some of his views?

It is not permissible for a man to lead people in prayer if they dislike him, due to the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "There are three whose prayers do not rise above their ears: a runaway slave until he returns, a woman who spends the night while her husband is displeased with her, and an Imam whom his people dislike."
