What is the ruling on making chickens fast—by withholding water for 1-2 consecutive days or every other day for ten days, and withholding food for 8-14 consecutive days, which causes a mortality rate of 6-8%—for the significant financial benefits it brings to the farmer?

It is not permissible to make chickens or other animals fast, as it involves unjustifiable starvation and torture. Withholding food and drink from them is considered severe torture. Whoever wishes to slaughter them should do so in the best manner, in compliance with the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "And when you slaughter, slaughter well." A woman entered Hellfire because of a cat she tied up; she neither fed it nor allowed it to eat from the vermin of the earth.
