What is the ruling on a person who abandons prayer seeking forgiveness for himself for a worldly matter?

Abandoning prayer is one of the gravest sins and destructive acts; indeed, some scholars consider it an act of disbelief. One who abandons prayer is in grave danger. Their seeking forgiveness while persisting in abandoning prayer is not an accepted repentance; rather, it is akin to supplication, the acceptance or rejection of which rests with Allah. Similarly, their seeking forgiveness for a worldly matter, its answer is in the hand of Allah; they may or may not attain what they sought forgiveness for.
