The answer

A woman is obligated to pay Zakat on the money remaining from the previous year if it reaches the nisab (minimum threshold), and having paid Zakat on it last year does not exempt her. The money she accumulated this year, such as salary or rent, begins a new lunar year (hawl) for Zakat calculation. Zakat becomes obligatory on it once a full hawl passes from the moment it reaches the nisab. If the new money is a profit derived from the original money, then Zakat is due on the entire amount when the hawl of the original money is completed. The current nisab is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver, and the amount to be paid is 2.5% (a quarter of a tenth).
