Abandoning a sin with the intention of repentance, sincerely for the sake of Allah, and seeking reward, is an act beloved by Allah and carries great recompense, in accordance with His saying, the Most High: "Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and He loves those who purify themselves." As for abandoning a sin out of fear of upsetting someone, without a sincere intention for the sake of Allah, there is no reward in it. However, there is no sin upon him as long as he does not commit it.
