What is the ruling on using the wife's health insurance card, the cost of which was paid by the husband?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

"Health insurance includes that which is forbidden (commercial, based on gharar (uncertainty) and qimar (gambling)), and thus it is not permissible to subscribe to it voluntarily, nor to benefit from it except to the extent of what was paid. And it includes that which is permissible (cooperative, takaful), and there is no objection to subscribing to it and benefiting from what it offers. If the aforementioned insurance is commercial, it is not permissible to seek treatment through it except to the extent of the subscription value. However, if it is cooperative takaful, there is no objection to benefiting from it according to the agreed-upon conditions."
