How do mountains pass like clouds, as mentioned in the verse: {And you see the mountains, thinking them solid, but they pass as clouds pass. [This is] the workmanship of Allah, Who perfected all things. Indeed, He is Acquainted with what you do}?

There are two interpretations for "And you see the mountains, thinking them solid, while they pass as the passing of clouds": The first is that it refers to the movement of mountains on the Day of Resurrection when they are scattered, based on the Almighty's saying: "And [mention] the Day the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will be terrified, except whom Allah wills. And all will come to Him humbled." The second interpretation is that it refers to the movement of mountains due to the Earth's rotation. Those who hold this view object to the first interpretation, arguing that on the Day of Resurrection, mountains will no longer exist after being scattered, citing the Almighty's saying: "And they ask you about the mountains, so say, 'My Lord will scatter them with a complete scattering.' Then He will leave it a level, smooth plain; you will not see therein any curve or elevation."
