Is punishment lightened for children if they become angry due to their parents' shortcomings in their duties, and what should children do if anger overwhelms them due to a harsh father who does not care for them?

Fathers bear a great responsibility towards their children, for they are accountable for raising them upon the principles of Islam and good morals. If fathers fall short in this, they are held accountable in Islamic law. Nevertheless, a father's dereliction of duty does not give children an excuse to fall short in their dutifulness towards him or to disregard his feelings. Rather, children must be dutiful to their fathers and treat them kindly in all circumstances. The same applies if the father is harsh or rude.
